Franklin Pierce Women’s Soccer Runs to the Final Four

Franklin Pierce Women’s Soccer is coming off a stellar 2024 season. The Ravens won their first NE10 title since 2018 and kept on rolling, making a run to the Final 4 of the DII NCAA Championships.

Plenty of individual accolades were earned by their players, along with Coach Matt Johnson and his staff taking home the DII East Region Staff of the Year.

Coach Kevon Isa broke down the ways that he and the Franklin Pierce staff used SPT to help them along their post-season run.

We asked Coach Isa to boil it down to the top 3 outcomes he uses SPT for:

1. Workload Management: Leverage the player performance timeline and Acute to Chronic ratio to reduce the risk of excessive fatigue

2. Player Profiling: Determine where players can fit the system based on objective measurables

3. Physical Testing: Identify which players are our highest physical performers and track progress throughout the season

“SPT improved our competitiveness, daily effort, and the accountability amongst players because it gave our staff objective data on each athlete's performance. If a player questions their physical performance we’re able to show them, without naming names, how they compare to the position group (above/below average).” Isa added “Although physical output doesn’t necessarily determine the outcome of a match, you can keep players accountable by looking at their normative values for high-speed distance, total distance, number of accelerations, etc”

“We also used SPT at Franklin Pierce for tactical substitutions during matches. Since there is a high frequency of substitutions to match our high-energy formations, using the trends we see from SPT data assisted us in making decisions about who/when to substitute to make an impact during a match”

“During the offseason, we use SPT to test and profile players. SPT data allows us to make individualized training programs for players. Constant data tracking helps our performance staff to optimize physical outputs to meet the tactical and physical demands for our upcoming season. We can also use historical data to create a return-to-play program for any injured player to get them back on the field safely and efficiently”

“We went with SPT because it fits in our budget, it’s easy to use and it gives us everything we are looking for as a staff”

We’re looking forward to another deep run from the Franklin Pierce Women’s Soccer program in 2025!
